The final day of BPYI, the Children’s Festival, has come and gone. I can safely say that the kids had an amazing time based on the fact that

they were basically screaming with joy for hours on end (the festival lasted 5). As we prepared for the festival, the heat and excitement combined with little cooperation from the boy’s camp made getting things organized impossible. The girls followed me in a magnificent parade of puppets, unfortunately chanting my name, from the girls school to the boys school where the stage was being set up for the festival. The U.S. Consulate arrived just in time to break the fast, and made a speech that made all the Bardians feel legitimately validated for our work here. We are all exhausted and ready to get home, but immensely proud of what we have done. Paul Marianthal, director of the Trustee Leader Scholars Program, declared the children’s library that we set up to be by far the most organized public space in the village. I hope to continue to work on this initiative.
